by: Kier Morrison

Not knowing too much about the format I decided some research was in order. At a basic level its a document format that does not allow [...]

Wireless Printing without Print Drivers

by: Kier Morrison | in: Blogs, From BEAR, Industry Insights, Product News/Updates | on: 13/04/2010

With the growth of wireless Internet environments both in size, reliability and capabilities users have growing expectations for the continuation of those services that are and/or were previous available on a network desktop workstation.

A core requirement of users is to enable network printing from their laptops. Now printing from a laptop wirelessly is nothing new, but what if you don’t want your users to download drivers onto their devices and configure those drivers correctly for printing. A major support headache in the making. Or what if you needed to charge users for printing to your printers?

WebSubmit for network printing takes care of all these issues in a simple yet effective process. Users who need to print simply enter WebSubmit URL, logon to their CMSIP account at the website, upload their document, select their finishing options and release the document to the printer. The is no need to install drivers on laptop and your network print environment now offers full support to wireless devices – irrespective of make, model or operating systems.

WebSubmit is designed to complete your existing environment including integration to portals. Customisation of WebSubmit (colours and logo) via CSS is simple. As a highly flexible system WebSubmit also offers users the ability to print to a Print Shop with increased finishing options, pick up options and even courier delivery charges.

To get you thinking here’s a few scenarios:

  • Chris wants to visit his local library to conduct some research. While at the library he Google’s some research information and finds a few documents that need printing. Chris saves the documents to his laptop, then logs onto the library’s branded WebSubmit site. Using his CMSIP card linked to the library system he logs onto his printing account and uploads his document. Chris’s document is a colour document but he only needs it in black and white. To save money he is going to double side the document when it’s printed. After selecting his options Chris releases the document to the Print Anyware queue (Follow Me printing) and can now collect his document when he is ready.
  • Natalie has just completed a major assignment and needs the document printed (full colour and double sided), bound with a clear cover and black back cover. Natalie accesses her University’s branded WebSubmit page and logs on with here University ID. After uploading her assignment, Natalie views the document in PDF to confirm it is correct. Because the standard printers in the University cannot finish her documents how Natalie requires them, Natalie selects from WebSubmit to send her document to the Print Shop queue where it can be bound as required. Selecting the binding and finishing options her CMSIP account is charged and the document delivered to the Print Room ready for printing and collection by Natalie.

WebSubmit provides all this functionality. Contact BEAR for more information.
