I was at the beach recently with a friend and our kids. The inevitable shop talk started up and during the conversation I was asked what I though of the new WWF file format. Not knowing too much about the format I decided some research was in order. At a basic level its a document format that does not allow [...]

Climbing the Knowledge Mountain
by: | in: Blogs, Support Team | on: 24/02/2010
The learning curve is steep – especially when important clients are prodding you to keep climbing, and not slip down a millimetre. So far at BEARS, I have spent 10 weeks learning. I feel I have only just touched the tip of the iceberg. I am preparing for a long and hopefully successful climb up the knowledge mountain.
I started at BEARS in November 2009, previously working in IT support, and a mechanical engineering workshop. I have had electronics as a hobby for most of my life, and my new role at BEARS encompasses all of my past experience. I have a bachelor degree in Infomechatronic Engineering, which is a combination of IT, mechanical and electronic engineering. But what I value most is the hands on experience I receive on the job, dealing with clients, providing them the solution they require, and making their business life simpler and more accountable with our products.
BEARS is such an interesting company. The products we provide may seem to only fill a niche market in cost recovery, but the number and configuration of the solutions vary immensely. This means, as a technician, I must be able to assist our clients over all the aspects of their solution, and be able to integrate them all to a single perfectly working system. So far, with the help of my more experienced colleagues, I have been able to complete what has been required of me. I still have a lot of learning to do, that I believe can only really be achieved by being there. With the supportive staff in Sydney and a knowledgeable mentor in Brisbane, it’s simply a matter of putting one foot in front of the other, and soon enough I will be running up the slopes.
